Before and after
your wax
The same notes apply to every treatment on the card. If the skin is sunburnt, broken, or freshly peeled, the wax waits.
Before
Let it grow
Hair needs to be about 5 mm, the length of a grain of rice. That is usually two to three weeks. Shorter than that, the wax cannot grip, and the appointment has to wait.
Exfoliate the day before
A gentle exfoliant the day before lifts the hairs that are lying flat. Skip it on the morning of the wax, when the skin should be calm.
Keep actives off the skin
No retinoids, acids, or scrubs on the area that day, and no sun or sunbed on it. Freshly tanned, sunburnt, or broken skin is not waxed.
Wear something loose
Tight clothing rubs skin that has just been waxed. A loose skirt or soft trousers is the easier way home.
After
Give it a day or two
For 24 to 48 hours, skip heat, the gym, swimming, saunas, and tight clothing. The skin is open enough that sweat and friction irritate it.
Stay out of the sun
Keep the area out of direct sun on the day. If it will see the sun later in the week, use a sunscreen once the redness has gone.
Exfoliate after a few days
From the third day, exfoliate gently a few times a week. That keeps new hairs from getting trapped under the skin.
Come back before it is coarse
Most people book again in about four weeks. Waiting until the hair is long and coarse makes the next wax harder on the skin.
